Deposit on small bottles

From 1 July 2021, a deposit on small plastic bottles for soft drinks and water will be introduced in the Netherlands. The preparations for this to run smoothly are in full swing and are taking place through a specially set up organization: Deposit in the Netherlands. This also has consequences for you as a customer of Compliment.nl. That is why we have listed here what is changing and what this means for you.

What will change on July 1, 2021?

  • From 1 July 2021, all small PET plastic bottles for soft drinks and water will fall under one joint deposit system.
  • The large PET bottles retain a deposit and also fall under this new legally required system. (Large= all PET bottles equal to or greater than 1 litre. Small= all PET bottles less than 1 litre).
  • Producers/importers are obliged to charge a deposit of 15 cents on small plastic bottles and 25 cents for large bottles.
  • All PET bottles (large and small) that fall under the new deposit system will receive a new deposit logo and a new EAN code. Many more intake points will also be added; partly compulsory and partly voluntary.
  • The deposit system will not apply to juices and dairy small plastic PET bottles.

So there will be temporarily 2 types of small PET bottles in circulation: bottles with and bottles without a deposit. To distinguish this, the bottles with a deposit are given a new deposit logo and a new EAN code.

What does this mean for you?

At Compliment.nl we will first use up our old stocks. This means that bottles may still be sold after 1 July that do not contain a deposit. You can still throw these bottles away with the rest of your plastic waste. After 1 July you can also hand it in at a collection point, such as a supermarket. Because you have not paid a deposit for this, you will not receive a deposit in return. But this way you can be sure that your bottle is recycled correctly!

It is also possible that before 1 July we already have a new stock with bottles with a deposit. You pay the deposit when completing your order and will be stated separately on your invoice.

You can return these bottles to supermarkets and manned gas stations after 1 July. These locations are required to take the bottles. In addition, there are also voluntary collection points, for example locations where you can buy the bottles, such as sports clubs, amusement parks.
