Bodega Coto Mayor ages the crianzas for a year in American oak barrels from various regions. That wood is beautifully fused with the alcohol, acids and aromas in this bright red, lively wine. In the nose and taste, fruity notes of berry and cherry stand out. The wood supports that fruit and gives the wine body. Such a smooth, medium-weight, modern Rioja does well as a glass on its own and at the table. Bodega Coto Mayor is located in Oyón in the Rioja Alta. The tempranillo grapes for this crianza come partly from Alta's own vineyards and another part is purchased from the better winegrowers in the Rioja Alavesa. The wine is made and aged in the cellars of Bodega Coto Vintage in Oyón.
