It's driving you crazy: you want to buy waste bags, but because of all the abbreviations and sizes you have no idea which waste bag you need. That is why we are happy to explain how you can find the right garbage bag.

What size garbage bag should I have?

The size of the garbage bag is expressed in litres or in the height x width. But which one should you have? A standard garbage bag has a capacity of 60 liter and dimensions of 60x 80cm. This is the size of most trash cans at home. To determine what size waste bag you need, use the following rules of thumb:

• The waste bag is 30% bigger than the dimensions of the waste bin/trash can. This gives you a little slack to fold the bag over the edge.

Rectangular or square waste bins

• De width of the bag you calculate by adding the width and the depth of the waste bin. Note: depth here is not from top to bottom (that's the height) but from front to back.

What thickness of the waste bag should I have?

• HDPE stands for High Density Polythylene. Or in plain language: a high density and therefore often somewhat stronger. These garbage bags are often translucent.
